SUMMER LOVE: A poem

why does time linger long
and lovers forget

if only
to be a flower
pressed between the delicate pages
of books, you love to read

if only
slowly you’d happen upon me
and remember that joyful day you
found me swooning in the summer breeze
between the thorny patches and rocky clay

if only to be forgotten no more
to be a thousand flowers
preserved between the fragile pages of your heart
who, when found,
proves patiently
that our summer love has not been lost to us

IF YOUR DREAMS ARE VAGUE: A Poem

IF YOUR DREAMS ARE VAGUE

if your dreams are vague

then your purpose is vague

then your focus is vague

then your future

if your future is vague

then your passion is vague

then your asking is vague

then your giving

if your giving is vague

then your need is vague

then your hope is vague

then your prayers

if your prayers are vague

then your answers are vague

then your faith is vague

then your God

Exit

speak to me like a poem
touch me like you mean it
need me like there’s no way out
and i’m your only exit

From the book THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE

PAINT ME MELANCHOLY

I was left

High upon your shelf

Waiting…like everybody  else

For a love that would not come

Now time’s small

Pond has become a

Sea, and has painted me

Pitch black

Weighed down

Drowning in melancholy

Poem from the book Grow Freedom

Our Love is Wounded

our love is a wounded soldier

painfully staggering

through lilies and thorns

through cutting rock

and perfumed meadows

every step, a loss and a gain

A Love Story: A Poem

A LOVE STORY

the sky is falling between us

the ground breaks its heart beneath

and yet there is Peace within our reach

we haven’t seen the moon in days

or sat with the sun for months

and still, there is a Peace that runs deep

between us, our hearts beat a cord

remember, we are tethered beneath the skin

together, underneath the incense of prayers

we are skipping above still waters

soaring beneath red seas

our lungs full of scarlet sun

our hearts a full moon

what is this cord that binds us?

it could be Love

it must be Love

what else could it be?

WASTE NOT

remember when we
were poor, happy, and thriving
living only on love?

the world couldn’t touch us

but we weren’t careful
we started wasting love
took love for granted

and then, one day
we started running out of love
could barely keep love on the table

i remember getting angry
when love was wasted

“there are people in Africa
starving for that love”

soon the cupboards were bare

now, i go out every day
searching for love, begging for love
sitting on street corners
holding signs that read
“will work for love”
pining for the days
we were poor and happy
living only on love
