THE FIRE, THEN THE GLAZE: A Poem

THE FIRE, THEN THE GLAZE
we are all born to be clay on
the Potters table
yearning to be molded by
prophetic hands, blistered and worn
the markings of a Master Artist who’s
been working with His hands longer
then His name existed
we are all eager to be crafted
but fear the fire
it’s what we all need though
to feel the flame of renewal
it’s what the Potter wants
it’s what He came here to do
passing us through the fire triumphantly
glazed and useful
making beautiful creations
destined to become bowls
some spoons
some cups
ready to hold the Water of Life
but He knows
that purpose is found first by being wise to be useful
and then willing
willing to be broken and made new
there is no fear in being broken
when the One who loves you more
than life is holding you
no piece broken will be lost
no one is ever lost
just waiting to be found
and when He finds you
be ready to be emptied
while empty
prepare to be filled
so filled to overflowing
we wet the feet of those who thirst around us
what joy to water the earth!
but first, the molding
then the carving
the fire, then the glaze

DREAM MAKING: A poem

DREAM MAKING
let’s forget about the noise the world makes about
bills and retirement plans
let’s just concentrate on this moment, focus on us
let’s forget about the noise and make our own music
creating heat and rhythm against the cool moonlight
some make music flesh upon flesh, but
our rhyme is your mind entangled with mine, so
let’s get spent on dreaming up visions of
who we are and where we’re going, because
dreaming doesn’t cost us much, plus
we get to walk away with something
let’s put the phones on silent
let our minds wander and see where we end up
creative minds thinking alike
turning thoughts into passions
forget about where time is going
let’s brainstorm beyond these stars
planning secret things only heaven knows, while
holding each other close
breaking ground and barriers with our dream-making
and when we are exhausted and worn out
let’s not worry about the mess, who might see
just focus on what we’ve created together and
what will be
listen, my love, out beyond our window
where the stars and the moon press against the darkness
their wisdom, expansive and calling
their song, our unwrapped gift
they are daring our souls to pay attention
let them show us how to dream
