MARCH
now our hope begins
when indecisive spring meets
passive winter’s end
while reckless summer
chomps at the bit
From the book THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE

now our hope begins
when indecisive spring meets
passive winter’s end
while reckless summer
chomps at the bit
From the book THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE

winter has come
emptying your nests
exposing bones
revealing weakness
as the rot of cold sets in
the birds flee your ribbed cages
taking with them their song
and leaving behind
your desire to also escape
From the book THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE

this summer
i hope we end each day
watching the sun drop
satisfied we’ve spent it
giving the sun something
to shine about tomorrow

from THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE

birds nest, the light fades
dusk yawns, and the moon
peeks early
*
the sun objects and tries to sing
one last line as darkness drapes
its diamond-studded satin sheet
against the dreamy blue sky
the day is gone, done trying
*
birds rest, convinced tomorrow
the earth will once again
open wide to provide its morning meal and
the sun, while he slumbers now,
will return in time to give the blessing
