A Little About Me
Hey! I’m Marquida, and welcome to my cozy corner of the web. I’m glad you’re here.
I live in Huntsville , Alabama with my husband, our two daughters, and our two dogs. My family is my joy. They make me laugh until my sides hurt, challenge me to grow in ways I never expected, and constantly inspire me to be a better person. Our home is filled with music, laughter, and beautiful chaos.
My Writing Journey
My love for writing poetry began in 10th grade with an unexpected assignment: write a poem about anything. I wrote about socks. (Poem down below) When I shared it with the class, I got so many compliments. I was hooked! That simple exercise opened up a whole new world for me. I discovered that writing poetry was deeply therapeutic. A way to process my troubled thoughts and emotions. It also felt like a calling.
Since then, I’ve self-published two poetry books, and started a third. I’m extremely grateful to be able to share my words with readers who connect with them. I’m also working on another passion of mine, a young adult mystery series. It’s been an exciting challenge and I can’t wait to share it with you!
My Garden Paradise
I’m also a passionate collector of fruit trees and bushes, and my garden is my pride and joy—even when it completely overwhelms me (which it often does). I grow figs, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, goji berries, mulberries, pears, cherries, raspberries, lemons, melons, and muscadines. There’s something deeply satisfying about eating fresh fruit from your backyard.
What Fills My Days
When I’m not tending to my garden or lost in thought, I’m probably going down biblical rabbit hole, journaling my thoughts, singing in my church choir or spending time with family and close friends. These practices bring me peace and purpose.
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me a little better. I’m glad our paths have crossed.

SOCKS
They seem to disappear, I realized
Right before my very eyes
We put them in our machine machines with care
And hope that they will all stay there
But we return with great despairTo find them gone, yes, gone I say
So quote me on this very day
Some say it’s all in my mind
But I have black, blue, green ones I can’t find
I put two in a machine just right
Stripped with colors shining brightWhen it was done, I looked inside
And tears began to fall at my side
So never again will I lose a sock
And that’s a promise with the lock
So for now on, if I can
I’ll wash my socks with my own two handsWritten by Marquida Roberts, in the 10th grade.
